Health

In 1948 the World Health Organization (WHO), defined health in these terms "a state of complete mental, physical, social well-being, and just not the absense of infirmity and disease. Because of this definition, a new area of health, social determinants, was developed which expanded beyond diseases and physical conditions of an indiviual.

Professional, academic, political, and community organisations were compelled to make their work more detailed and to make their reasoning for distributing resources more clear. These improvements brought about a higher level of accountability to the public.

This definition of health was not improved upon until 1986 when the (WHO) stated that "a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living" as the definition of health. Also personal and social resources and physical capacities that were emphasized in a positive concept defined health.

Further definitions of health were brought about with the organizations of International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) which are branches of the WHO Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC).

Our total health is maintained through the health triangle that is composed of our emotional health, mental health, physical health, and social well-ness.
