A garden is usually out doors in the form of a planned space with the purpose of enjoyment of plants and various forms of nature, display, and cultivation.

The garden can have man-made materials mixed with natural resources, of which the most common form is the residential garden.

Gardens that are based around plants fall into the Western garden category.

Zoological gardens display wild animals in a simulated or showing a resemblance of a natural habitat.

Botanical Gardens

Enclosure is referred to from the etymology of garden and comes from a blend of Anglo-French gardin, jardin, Middle English gardin, stemming from a Germanic origin and family to Old High German gart, meaning an enclosure.

In British English a garden refers to an area of land enclosed nearby a building, while in American English this is known as a yard.

Example types of traditional eastern gardens are the Zen garden and the Xeriscape garden which provides the benefits of a garden environment with out demanding the use of irrigation and other resources to care for the local native plants that is grown in it.

Structural enhancements can be exhibited, like water features such as fountains, waterfalls, ponds, statuary, creeks, dry creek beds, trellises, arbors and others.

Gardens can be used for crops to produce food or for just ornamental purposes and they can be planted separately or mixed with each other.

Flower gardens are known for their colors, textures, fragrances, and combining plants of different heights to delight the senses and create interest.
