Autos

Auto or automobile referred to today as a car is a motorized vehicle that is used to carry one to eight people or passengers that are seated.

They were designed for transporting people rather than goods and normally have four wheels which were designed to run on roads. Thru mass production by the automobile industry they were made readily available to the publc with the 1908 ModelT being one of the first cars to be produced by the Ford Motor Campany in the United States.

Today there is about one auto for every eleven people worldwide. There are roughly 800 million automobiles including light trucks on the road today that use over 260 billion gallons of diesel fuel and gasoline every year.

In the history of the development of the auto many different inventions where created. Some of these early inventions ran on electricity, some on a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen and some on steam.

Most commonly regarded as the inventor of our modern automobile was Karl Benz. In 1885 he built his first motor vehicle and in January 1886 he received the patent for his invention.

The internal combustion flat engine was designed and patented in 1896 by Karl Benz. In 1899 the largest auto company in the world at that time was owned by Benz and produced about 572 vehicles. This company called Benz and Cie became a joint-stock company and later merged with the Daimler Motor Company to become the Daimler-Benz Company.

Ransom Olds produced the first production-line of manufacturing on a large scale in 1902 at his Oldsmobile factory.

Henry Ford improved upon this concept to where he could produce a car every 15 minutes with only about 1 hour and 33 minutes of man hours in each vehicle. Because of this process the Model T ford became very affordable and could be purchased with four months pay as an assembly line worker in 1914.

Cars were built with controls to facilitate driving, parking, safety, controlling lights and heating, comfort of passengers, which caused them to become increasingly more advanced in their features. Later models of cars now have added features as: air conditioning, navigation systems, rear cameras for backing, blue tooth and passenger entertainment.
