Operated by Google, and selecting up to the minute news from thousands of news sources and publications, Google News is a free news aggregator provided service. Krishna Bharat originally developed the idea, that was launched in September 2002 as a beta version, and was officially released in January 2006.
25,000 publishers or more, make up the content, that Google News aggregates within the last 30 days of appearing in news articles and websites. A short clip of 200 characters with a link to the full content is shown on their front page. Some of these linked sites may require a subscription, which is noted in the front page description.
Up to December 1, 2009, users could click and watch their first article free and then had to go behind a paywall to continue to read articles. After this date, their first click was free, then the content provider would set the number after that.
